      I am somewhat perplexed. In the very long list of changes and improvements mentioned in the above linked document announcing the release of version 5, there is only one short paragraph with “Mac” in it:
      The builtin AVI, MPEG-I, and WAVE decoders have been removed; we now
      depend on GStreamer or the Mac QuickTime Toolkit to decode such
      media files.

      And “QuickTime” does not run only on Macs, there is a version for Windows too:
