    Hello, I would like to share my wisdom 😉 or get corrected, if I am mistaken.

    In our organisation, we use WSUS for updating PCs. With Windows 1809 Enterprise comming to the end of support right now, we started to push 20H2 via WSUS. And I noticed, that when upgrading 1809 to 20H2 it takes quite a long time. Which is OK, lot work needs to be done.

    But When I let Windows 10 version 2004 upgrade, there is just a small and quick update called “Enablement package”. Does it mean, that version 2004 already contans 20H2 resources and they are just enabled by that update? Update from 2004 to 20H2 is swift, its complete in few minutes.

    Is this by desingm that “minor” updates –04/–H1 already contain –09/–H2 functions so the update is quicker?

    Thanks for opinions and ideas. I appreciate that.

      2004/20H2/21H1 are all the same 2004 core image.
      They all get the same CUs, SSUs, etc.
      The only difference is the turning on of the Enablement Package (already contained) for the desired version.
      That is why the upgrades 2004 -> 20H2, 20H2 -> 21H1, and 2004 -> 21H1 take very little time and download bandwidth.

        And today I came to interesting conclusion about WU.
        Its was hidden for a long time from my eyes, because like 95% of users are allowed connect to the internet in our company.
        But is it really the way, that without internet, WSUS wont push the update to the station automatically? I mean if the user on the station has no intenet connection, the update is stuck.

        With user NOT having internet connection, I see “Waiting for download” in the Windows update.
        And if I log to the computer with user account, tat DOES have the internet, the update is done after that.

        Is it really that *stup**ly* designed, or is my setting wrong and other admins can update without the internet?
        Downloading updates from other computers in the domain is enabled.

          Your admins should have set the computer up so that it does not update from the internet, but from an internal update server.
          There is nothing you can do about that so just ignore it and let your IT bods sort out any issues it may cause.

          cheers, Paul
