    English translation:

Curious story: A customer buys an activation key for Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store. However, the attempt to activate the associated license fails. The customer contacts Microsoft Support who uses an unofficial script to activate Windows 10.

Twitter user TCNO witnessed this story (via Golem ). After purchasing the key for Windows 10 Pro, Windows did not accept it. He contacted customer support, but they couldn’t help him on the first try either.

His case was escalated internally, and the next day a technician got in touch with him, who connected to his system via the remote help app and finally used a PowerShell script to activate Windows.

    I can’t believe it.
My official Microsoft Store Windows 10 Pro key wouldn’t activate. Support couldn’t help me yesterday.

Today it was elevated. Official Microsoft support (not a scam) logged in with Quick Assist and ran a command to activate windows.

    BRO IT’S A CRACK
    NO CAP

The script comes from https://massgrave.dev/ and is unofficial. The customer contacted the script developer via Discord, who told him that this was the second case that had been reported to him. However, his script is “not official and not legal”…

The people you call are outsourced support people from vendors that are contracted with Microsoft.  We call them in the biz “v-dash” as it stands for vendor (as I recall).  So when you say “Official Microsoft support” they don’t always use official resources even though they aren’t supposed to use such things.  Normally when you buy from the store the key is linked to the Microsoft account.

Nothing was cracked. The script can only be downloaded from Microsoft-owned sites.

      From the original article:

The legality can be argued in this case, because the proof of license was provided by the request to the support. Ultimately, the script should only use methods provided by Microsoft – but only if a valid license is available.

The script can only be downloaded from Microsoft-owned sites.

The script can be downloaded by anyone from GitHub.

      “Method 2 – Traditional

Download the file named MAS_1.8_Password_1234.7z from here

Extract this file with a 3rd party archive manager, such as 7zip

      Password is 1234

In the extracted folder, find the folder named All-In-One-Version

      Run the file named MAS_AIO.cmd

You will see the activation options, and follow onscreen instructions.

      That’s all.”..

Microsoft Activation Scripts but not from Microsoft? Interesting. Will certainly investigate when I have some spare time.

Actually, the thing is not that there are such scripts out there (there are, and have been for quite some time if you know how to find them), but the fact that Microsoft (or someone endorsed by / contracted by them) actually uses these to activate.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.
