AI may not be able to measure trustworthiness yet, though China is trying, but it does seem like mass detection of classified materials would be the perfect job for a robot. We could stop ruining people by making them hang out in vile places. Of course, we have to make sure that the AI is sufficiently focused to the task as to not be subject to being swayed by the culture of those forums.

I had the opportunity to speak with Will about AI, humans, and Microsoft. We recorded it for a segment in the SMB Community Podcast, 15 minutes with a smart person. You can listen to it there or on any of the podcast catchers.

Will, Your commentary was the best thing I’ve ever read on AskWoody. Congratulations on a great issue!

The situation is less about the first amendment and more about whether or not social media are platforms or publishers. We’ve gone back and forth on this, with the courts changing sides. As platforms, social media has no responsibility for the content of what is published. As publishers, they do. It seems that we want them to be both.

If ultimately we choose platform, then social media get to do whatever they please without any oversight or responsibility.

If ultimately we choose publisher/media, then social media companies have to choose what gets published and be ready to defend their choices.

    • in reply to: Twitter accounts are 80% bots, expert says #2477171

When does a tool cross the line and become a bot? And when does a bot become malicious? Can twitter be so influential in culture and only have 20% of the users it claims?

      There are so many questions.

    • I’m in Michigan and we’ve saved a good amount of money. In addition to the monthly savings they also send out a $25 amazon gift card just for continuing in the program. I’ve been in the program for three years now. Here, very rarely, does it go into rush hour mode. When it does, they cool your home by 3 degrees in preparation and never raise the temp more than 3 degrees above where you have it set. Anyone complaining about sweating seems to be complaining a bit too much to me. They signed up for it after all. If they don’t understand the program, then that’s on them.

Your 4th generation i5 processor was released in 2014. That predates Windows 10 even. We have major security problems. We are under attack from foreign and domestic terrorists. Security is no longer an option. To continue to run old equipment is to be part of the problem. We decry that we need more security but then cry when the solution arrives.

I think that you got the point of the article. We need simpler and easier to understand EULA’s. I came to visit the forum here to find out what people thought about this article and what they thought the point was. Microsoft’s EULA is one of the less offensive in the industry. As expected it seems that it instead just fed the paranoid and already angry.

This is true of every agreement that you’ve ever agreed to.

I created a summary post for those dealing with the exchange intrusion. This is a giant problem and everyone should assume that they are breached because you probably are.  https://www.thirdtier.net/2021/03/06/exchange-server-vulnerability-summary/

Open Defender, now called Security. Down at the bottom on the menu there’s a gear. Click that to go into settings. Make sure the slider for Get informational notifications is on. Under it also make sure that the box for Files or Activities are blocked is checked. That should do it.

    • in reply to: Why your reseller for Microsoft 365 matters #2340149

My distain for GoDaddy runs deep but I tried hard to control it for this article. Not only do they raise your price later for less 365 but they use that same tactic across all of their services. The price they charge for SSL certificate renewal is next to criminal. Lured in with low prices and supposedly “easy” web hosting they then get you later on the renewals with some serious price gouging. Many a client has come our way not knowing how to get out of this terrible situation.

You’ll probably have to uninstall those third party tools. Most of them disable Defender security so as to avoid conflicts.

In order to take advantage of the advanced security offering in Defender you can’t run a third party anti-virus too. It comes down to either you want Defender or you don’t.

Migration off is a really big deal. They’ve either so broken 365 that migration doesn’t work or they are actively blocking it. Either way, they are trapping people into their service and that’s a really unethical business practice.
