    • in reply to: 9000001 Blocking Copilot in Windows 10 and 11 Home sku #2608021

I’m running Windows 10 Home 22H2, so I want to know if the link ‘here is the registry key to disable Copilot in Windows’  in Susan’s  introduction (#2607335) will work for Win 10 Home, or only for Win 10 Pro.  I can see comments regarding Win 11 Pro and Win 10 Pro above, so I’m unsure as to whether the link will work for Win 10 Home, although this topic 9000001 is called ‘Blocking Copilot in Windows 10 and 11 Home sku’.

      Appreciate your guidance on this.

    • in reply to: MS-DEFCON 4: Major April issue, but not from updates #2556433

Berserker79/PKCano/Alex:  I just checked the system details, and it shows ‘Windows 10 Home 22H2 with OS Build 19045.2846’.

So it looks like the system has updated correctly.

Thanks for your help on this.

    • Alex:  thanks.  I did that and it shows ‘Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5025221)’
so I assume this is the April Cumulative Update for Win 10 22H2, and that Windows Update History’ hasn’t caught up yet.

    • I’ve just gone through the April monthly update process including moving to Win10 22H2.  I’m running Windows 10 Home version.

I’m not sure whether I’ve ‘missed’ the April cumulative update or not.  If I look in ‘view update history’ in Windows Update I can see that Feature Update to Win 10 22H2 has gone ahead, as has the MSRT update to v5.112 and a definition update for Windows Defender to 1.387.2917, but no listing of  2023-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 22H2 (KB 5025221) under  the Quality Updates. Windows Update says I’m up to date.

However, if I look in Control Panel, Programs and Features, Installed updates  I can see an item described as ‘Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB 5025221), so
have I got the April 2023-04 Cumulative Update installed or not, or is it just that Windows Update hasn’t caught up as yet as described by others above.  I note that ‘Trusted Installer’ in Task Manager is now running again after having stopped about 1 hour ago.

      Appreciate any advice on this.

    • Okay, thanks for that.  I’ve changed the release to 22H2 and have taken back control.

    • I assume that KB5025175 won’t be offered as part of the March updates?

    • I installed the InControl utility about 3 weeks ago and it is ‘locked on’ to Win10 Home 21H2, until I release it. Therefore I assume I don’t need to apply Registry keys as well?

      Appreciate any advice on this.

      regards

I’ve looked at Susan’s advice on checking BitLocker status (off or on) prior to deciding whether to instal or hide KB 5012170.  I cannot find anything about BitLocker through start and search on my Lenovo S340 IdeaPad, running Win 10 Home 21H2.  My laptop is about 4 years old and I’ve tried various methods (eg from Susan’s Tasks for the Weekend from 09/2021) to find BitLocker on my laptop, but I cannot find it.  I’ve also tried other suggested methods from How to Geek (Control Panel>System and Security> (look for) BitLocker Drive Encryption) without success.

Is there something that I’m missing here? Appreciate help on this.

Apologies if this in the wrong forum.

Susan:  I have Windows Updates paused until 5 September.  Therefore, am I correct in assuming that I cannot run Wushowhide.diagcab now, because “Wushowhide uses the Windows Update Service to search for updates and will not run if the Service is Disabled” – I assume Paused = Disabled?

      Appreciate your advice and patience!

Pixie:  you mentioned that you have a ‘new’ laptop running Win 10 Home, but the laptop did have BitLocker pre-installed.  What brand/model laptop is it?

I’ve been reading the various comments regarding KB 5012170 and the risk of ‘triggering’ BitLocker and being asked for the recovery key.  As a precaution, I reviewed Susan’s ‘tasks for the weekend’ from September last year regarding BitLocker and checked through File Explorer: I don’t have BitLocker on at all, nor does it seem to be available for my laptop.

I have a Lenovo S340 Ideapad running Windows 10 Home 21H2. I checked BitLocker settings again under ‘about your PC’ and it stated that BitLocker is only available for my laptop if I upgraded to either Win 10 Pro or Win 11 Pro: is this still correct?  I have no intention of upgrading to either Win 10 Pro or Win 11 Pro.

Have there been any instances of KB 5012170 triggering BitLocker on Win 10 Home pcs? I’m very concerned about being ‘locked out’ of my laptop.

Appreciate any advice or suggestions on this matter.

Susan:  no, I don’t block the MS store,  I allow updates ‘from anywhere’ so that I can get updates to Chrome or Lenovo as I choose, but I don’t access the MS store  either.
