    • I’ve recently had the same issues with Outlook 2010.
Messages which contained hyperlinks wouldn’t respond (open default browser to show content) when clicked.
I use Firefox as my default browser, but made IE11 default to get a comparison.
After doing this, hyperlinks, when clicked, then would show a ‘How do you want to open this?’ dialog box.

Opting to use Firefox (or any other browser) the link(s) would open to view the content in the chosen browser as I would have expected.
Any further clicking of the same link in the message, or a link in any other message continually generated the same ‘How do you want to open this?’ box.
Making Firefox default again still generated the above dialog box after clicking links.

What cured the issue for me was to go to this page: You are prompted to specify Internet Explorer when you click a link in Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2007https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3094186 – and using the ‘Easy Fix’ download.

Links would open immediately in Internet Explorer 11, but after changing the default browser back to my preferred Firefox, links always open in Firefox now as I want.

Perhaps a recent update has caused this problem for some users of Outlook when certain scenarios are present on their system.
Note: the Easy Fix creates a Restore Point during the fix process.

    • I’ve had a couple of W7 machines that failed the Windows checks during an upgrade process quoting various reasons.
Ignoring them and simply downloading/using the Media Creation Tool to upgrade solved the issues as if they were never there in the first place.
Give it a try if you want to upgrade.

How to Pin URL Shortcut to Taskbar in W8/8.1/W10
Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the page you want to use.
Drag the Tab, that’s Tab into the the Taskbar till you see ‘Pin to Taskbar’.

    • You can use a small utility called 7+ Taskbar Tweaker available via this page: http://rammichael.com/7-taskbar-tweaker

I originally used it in W7/8/8.1 and now in W10 to close the gaps between the Taskbar icons:

. . . . and it also has the facility to make the icons larger by changing the Data value in the Advanced options.

Note: This utility may not be compatible with some later W10 Insider Preview versions but I’m sure the program author will address any issues in the near future for final released versions as he has done in the past.
Give it a try, explore all the options should you want to, and see what you think.

This useful page: How to make Taskbar icons bigger in Windows 10http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-make-taskbar-icons-bigger-in-windows-10/ . . . . should help you out.

To repeat my last post – Have you tried changing the setting again so you auto login to get a comparison with the icons/thumbnails?
An easy way to do this is to simply click the Start button, then start to type netplwiz.
Click the netplwiz entry in the search field, or press the Enter key, to open the ‘User accounts’ box and make sure there is no check mark in ‘Users must enter a user name and password . . . ‘
If you uncheck the box here, you’ll need to enter the password twice on clicking Apply or OK to progress.

Doing something on a friends computer doesn’t reflect/show/reveal what happens on ‘your’ PC.

I have never, in any operating system, come across a situation where opting to change a user’s login options in the ‘User Accounts’ box changes the ‘View’ of files (icons or thumbnails) in a folder.

Can you try to explain what is now happening in more detail?

Your welcome – pleased to help you out.

Check the Folder Options (View tab) to see if ‘Always show icons, never thumbnails’ is checked.
If it is, change it so there is no check mark in the box.

There are several ways to access this dialog box, but an easy way is to open File Explorer, or any folder for that matter, then click the File tab, then ‘Change folder and search options’.
When the Folder Options box appears, click the ‘View’ tab.

    • in reply to: MSN Home page white space #1563932

I suggest you try a decent ad-blocker in your browser to try and get an acceptable compromise if theses adverts/white spaces eventually bother you.
The image below shows an MSN page with no ad-blocker (empty space) and the same page with the ad-blocker active.

My examples above are using Firefox 46.0.1 browser and uBlock Origin as my preferred ad-blocker.

      uBlock > https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Note: Ad-blockers, there are several good ones out there, can potentially block all adverts in a page but the better ones allow a user to have a certain amount of control allowing adverts to be blocked or allowed via the settings/options.

This small, free program might be of use to you:

ShellFolderFix – Manage folder window positions/sizehttp://www.sevenforums.com/free-developer-programs-projects/40916-shellfolderfix-manage-folder-window-positions-size.html

I’ve used to it with W7, 8, 8.1 and currently with W10 very successfully. It makes Explorer folder windows remember their size and position.
      Give it a try.

    • in reply to: Clipboard utility to replace ClipX #1529960

Have you tried to download & install ClipX in W10?
I’m not familiar with it but downloaded & installed from here: http://downloads.tomsguide.com/ClipX,0301-5423.html – and it seems to work OK.
It keeps a history of what I have copied, and on expanding the Notification Area icon to click an entry, I can then paste that entry into an application such as word.
