I tried to use Edge and bing but every search ended in a blank page. Did a repair install on Edge. No help. Tried edge on a different PC. No help. Disabled adblockers. No help.

Can’t believe this is so dysfunctional.

FWIW I got on the waitlist by signing in on Firefox. Have no idea if this will pan out on Edge.

Oop ..Found the problem. I had an extension, total script blocker enabled. When I disabled it, seems to work

After I installed Cumulative KB5022287, tested ok & created restore pt, My Win 11 Pro started to download and install KB5019274. Described as optional preview ..I quickly paused updates until 3/5. Saw nothing on KB5019274 when I searched forums
      Will await advice. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/january-19-2023-kb5019274-os-build-22000-1516-preview-ace2511d-586e-41b0-b213-3a89d97565a4

KB4023057 was also installed which appears controversial on forums. Since the PC seems to work ok, I’ll leave alone. Have created restore point and image back up prior to update so I can reverse anything that doesn’t turn it into a smoking pile of parts.

    • in reply to: MS-DEFCON 3: Windows 10 22H2 may leave you blue #2513988

After researching the BSOD problems on Win10 PC’s, I followed advice on this thread to resume updates and then quickly pause to 2/6/23. Hoping Microsoft gets it right by then

Found this article discussing mitigations: https://windowsreport.com/kb5021233-windows-10-22h2-hidparse-blue-screen/ Downloaded their Rec’d Restore.exe but not installed

Are Windows 11 PC’s immune to the hidparse blue screen problem?  Thanks

This article implies Win11 are susceptible but not mention in this thread:

I’m confused. On 10/25 we went to Defcon 4 go ahead ..now it’s Defcon 2 hold off on the same October updates. I only visit during patch time so I miss stuff. What am I missing?

      Thanks in advance

Ran across this list of update pauser’s anyone have experience with any of these?

How can a user delay the update beyond the 5? week maximum?

When I updated 3 Win10 pro’s & 1 Win11Pro I delayed update the max to 9/10. Since the advice for consumers [No nuclear codes!] is to delay, instructions would be helpful. One other poster asked this but I saw no response.

      Thanks

Why was .net preview offered on Win10 pc but the non preview version was offered on a nearly identical PC?

Just updated Win10 pro 64 pc ..no problems. The PREVIEW edition of .net Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64 (KB5013887)..Since it was a preview, I didn’t install it.

When I updated a similar PC the non-preview, 2022-06 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64 (KB5013887), was offered. I accepted and it showed downloading and installing going forward…but after installation, the .net updated was not shown in the history..only 2022-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5014699) showed up. The latest .net installation was 2022-05 installed 6/4. No clue what happened with .net 2022-6 that was supposedly installed.

Win 11 Pro No problems. I installed May update 6/4 and paused updates till 7/11. A few days later, HP updates to sound card and processor or some such were offered and I went with them. The HP update process must have removed the pause because then this showed up: July 2022-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5014697)  I went ahead and installed with no negative side effects seen and noted in calendar to pause updates in early July. The takeaway is to not install PC specific updates until the monthly install cycle because it could cancel the update pause.

I’m waiting and watching before installing July updates on 3 Win 10’s.

Wondering if Microsoft fixes issues with this update or waits till next update cycle. Guessing the latter.

Why did you hide KB4023057? I just installed it on 2x Win 10 boxes and may be on a win 11 so wondering if I’m in for problems.

    • in reply to: March Madness patching begins #2430481

Beta tester report: I installed March updates on 2 Win10’s & one Win11 without apparent adverse impact..I could have delayed but am a bit more concerned about Russki hackers than Microsoft risk after Susan’s reassurance.

One other Win10 PC update had not downloaded so I paused updates to see if any adversities arise from other updates.

Could have deleted the downloaded, but not yet installed, updates using this method:

Actually, the downloaded updates are stored in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and they can be deleted without needing to stop any of those services.
Deleted all the contents of the downloads folder “except” for the SharedFileCache folder.
Then delete the contents of the SharedFileCache folder.
As noted above, when you restart Windows, it’ll automatically restore any info required in those folders for the installed updates. Pause updates after doing this.

I forgot to pause updates and they downloaded pending restart which based on my active hours won’t be till 8pm. I created restore points. Any other defensive measures? Early updating feels like being exposed to someone with Covid..uncertainty.

    • Will disabling preview builds block all .NET updates; there seem to be no non-preview .net updates when I use this method to block previews: search Edit Group policy => Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update -> Windows Update for Business > Manage preview builds (Enabled and set to Disable preview builds)

      Thanks
