Sorry to reply to my own post, but wierdly I have just bought something from an on line IT shop and all was OK.  I wonder if the original problem was a result of Microsofts meltdown, which I have on ly just found out about.

Sorry.  Should have said I had no such problem with MS Edge.

I have this issue also.  On 3 online stores I have used, this error appeared when I came to enter credit card details. I got the error box instead of the verified by visa one.

I have replaced my old NAS box with a Synology ds220+ since my last successful transaction, so could this be the problem, or is verified by visa the issue?

Running windows 7 with Sophos (standalone) here.  I installed KB4493472 from windows update yesterday lunchtime and all seemed well, no freezing etc.  To be on the safe side I uninstalled it from windows update today and it just did it without going in to safe mode 🙂

I restored from yesterdays disk image and checked WU again and it was not offered, just the Office security patches.
