Mine is having some error launching certain programs after the update (O&O ShutUp10 app doesn’t launch, and others.)

Oh well. This is a learned experience. ๐Ÿ™

Its been years and Windows 8.1 is always the one I recommend to my friends, gone is Windows 7 as it’s not optimized for MadVR/HTPC usage. If there’s only a way for me to use that to my z370 system I will do so, but it seems drivers are a pain to find if I do so.

Thanks, but from the way it looks I maybe missing out some performance juices if I still stick with Windows 8.1.

Guess, I’ll just need to find a guide how to tame Windows 10 to behave like 7 or 8.1.

      Thank you

My 7 years old Windows 8.1 just died early in the morning, and it was my motherboard that went KIA. I was a proud member of Group B, but since I’ve made new Intel Build i7-8700k can I still be a member of Group B under Windows 10? Or can I just unplug the Network cable and be a temp. member of Group W?

If there was a way to make Windows 8.1 work on the new CPU, I will stick to that until 2020. ๐Ÿ™

Iโ€™m quite in a dilemna right now though, since I plan to upgrade my AMD FX machine (FX8320 CPU) to AMD Ryzen, and I heard โ€“ they do not support Windows 8.1.

Lack of support is usually lack of drivers for your hardware, not CPU limitation. There isnโ€™t a lot of difference between W10 and W8 in operation terms, the most obvious is patching โ€“ W8 allows manual patching, W10 makes it difficult. I would go to W10 with the new hardware just for the drivers and add a Start menu like StartIsBack to make it more like W7. Taming the telemetry and updates is discussed in other posts. cheers, Paul

Thanks for this info. While Windows 8.1 is the best OS for MadVR at the moment. I’ll settle for this setup for now.http://www.avsforum.com/forum/26-home-theater-computers/2880609-madvr-hdr-passthrough-isn-t-working.html

Thank you guys! And for the valuable information for the Pro’s and Con’s of Windows 10, as well as @Noel Carboni ‘s best practices and setup for Windows 8 (the 40 processes setup looks interesting :D)

I’m quite in a dilemna right now though, since I plan to upgrade my AMD FX machine (FX8320 CPU) to AMD Ryzen, and I heard – they do not support Windows 8.1. If I happen to go ahead with the upgrade, will my system boot up? If there’s a workaround / hack to force Windows 8.1 to recognize the new gen CPU, I’m interested to learn.

Otherwise, I will try to know more about Windows 10 and how to tame the beast inside it ๐Ÿ˜€

P.S. Is there any guide to make Windows 10 to behave like Windows 7 or 8.1?

Hi guys, this website is very usefull as it warns me about the latest mess-ups MS release onto their updates. Just want to hear your opinion if Windows 10 is worth the try now – since its release?

I’m still using Windows 8.1 and I’ve tweaked it to behave like Windows 7 (thanks to tweakhound :)) Anyway, just want to hear your opinion, as I’m itching to do a clean install onto my machine. Thank you!
