    • This sounds like a nudge to change to Firefox ESR – I’m on 91.6.0 – and to stay there until this is no longer a problem.

Didn’t we start out discussing how to save money on a Microsoft 365 subscription?

How did Norton 360 and WordPerfect come into play?

    • I like to have my Zoom call on a different screen from whatever I want to refer to during the Zoom.  Thus, the Zoom call takes place on my Surface (better camera), and the Dell laptop has all the files, agenda, etc.

    • I did a complete reinstall (wipe everything) of Windows on my Surface Pro 3.  When called for a key, I used the Windows 7 key from my purchased retail copy of Win 7, a cased CD.  And it worked, and still works.

If this had not worked, my fall-back was to install Win 7 on the Surface, and take the upgrade to Windows 10, but that would have been much messier.

    • A question for those that use the paid version of reflex.

I’m a long-time user of Macrium, and feel that it’s worth paying for the licence.  After all, how are these guys to keep the roof on, and it’s decent software.  I’m an ex-user of Acronis.

I looked back at how much I had paid them, and when.

This is for a four-licence pack:

      Feb-15: GBP 57.95 – version upgrade v5 to v6

      Mar-17: GBP 57.95 – version upgrade v6 to v7

      May-21: GBP 50.95 – version upgrade v7 to v8

Thus, I’ve had seven years of use, four licences, for GBP 166.85, and, on past form, v8 ought still to have quite some life in it.  The USD exchange rate has been all over the place, but this converts to a bit over USD 200, taken over seven years.

I try very hard to avoid (explicitly) subscription ware.  You could duck the version upgrade, stick with the version you’re on.  You don’t HAVE to take the version upgrade.  You’d still get support and updates, though I think these may tail away a bit.

I had these some time ago, two to three years ago, fake appointments that tried to get me to click on them.  The trouble is that it was impossible to send them to SpamCop, my spam reporting service of choice.  Then they stopped.

I’m not sure that it describes exactly what you described in your original post, but it might point a way forward for you.

There’s a saying: “When Heathrow sneezes, all of Europe gets a cold.”

The way that Heathrow, and its major client, BA, is running its business, it is becoming less and less relevant to Europe.

But then, this is a computing forum and not an airlines forum.

Oscar – this thread has reached over 500 posts, and has become rather slow to load.

Please could you, as you did with “. . . . . .greatest performances of classical music?”, close the thread, and start Part II.

If you’re running out of HD space, you might be best to reinstall Windows, and to do this while you still have sufficient free disk space to do the reinstall.  That is important.  By re-installing from fresh, I was able to “recover” nearly 50 GB on drive space on my 128 GB Surface Pro 3.

I know that’s not exactly what you asked, but I thought that my experience might be of help.

    • Rebop – thanks for this interesting thread.  Forget me Not looks as if it works very similarly to Cookie Quick Manager, in which my setup is heavily invested; I’d be lost without it.  I can direct this to save the cookies that I want or need, and to wipe all the rest.  I was curious about Forget me Not, and took from the app home page on AOM that the same should be possible.

You mention the size of the PST file.

Wasn’t there once a limit of 2 GB on the PST file size, eased by one of the version transitions of Office?  I can not remember which transition this was, or whether this is relevant in this case.

    • (BIOS has been pulled from Dell’s site)

Alex – thanks for posting this.

Dell SupportAssist alerted me to this BIOS update, ver 1.28.3 in my case.  Is it just me, or do these seem to be coming along more and more often these days?

I prefer to run the exe to install a new BIOS, rather than taking it over SupportAssist.

Version 1.28.3 is still offered to my machine (Latitude E5570)  on the Dell support site.  It is not amongst those mentioned in the Bleeping Computer article, but I’m inclined to leave it until I feel a little more confident that Dell have got it right.
