Aother great freebie is streamWriter, a program I’ve been using for years. It has all the features mentioned, e.g., recording, volume control, etc., but in addition allows building folders of your favourite stations (in my case, separate folders for blues, folk, soft rock, hard rock, country, and guitar along with unsorted stations for Christmas music, chill out, and a few classical composers). Finding stations is also easy, just enter the genre you want plus optional variables like kbps and a list appears in the right side panel.

It took me a year and a half to retire from freelance translation and copy-editing for my final client, a science institute. Work got harder and harder to settle down to, with delays long enough for me to forget once familiar shortcuts in my Word substitute program. I’m happy you have been able to stay sharp and meet your deadlines right to the end. Quite impressive!

Here’s hoping you’re planning some summer bike trips, rides at least. Keep the rubber side down!

      Thanks,

      Wayne

    • in reply to: Zero day still unpatched #2408581

Thanks.  Basically, I’m a week too early to start looking for the go-ahead notice. Like I said, a bit thick . . .

    • in reply to: Zero day still unpatched #2408554

Sorry about being a bit thick, but is it time to Resume updates again and collect any from December’s “B” week? I’m paused until January 14, my last quality update was December 4, and 21H2 was installed on December 10. Defender definitions arrived today as usual, December 27.

Or am I just a week early before Resume time?

      How?

Add an “l” to read “html” because the link does not work (for me anyway) without it.

Out of place, reply to post with bureausoft url.

Oooops, wrong again, reply in right place. Where did the Remove button go?

From another thread this morning . . .

That was pretty quick! Thanks, Susan, for the one-liner I requested that appeared today in the DefCon alert. In case anyone missed it:

Follow the prompts to install Windows 10 21H2. I’m comfortable with that version at this time and recommend it.”

      Hi Susan,

With so many of us not ready to buy new computers and another four years before Win 10 is officially scrapped, will Patch Watch and DefCon be somehow divided between 10 and 11 so us 10-types do n0t fret about 11 problems?

Also, a one-liner like “21H2–not yet!” or “21H2—Go for it!” added to all of your Patch Watch and Update articles would be appreciated by your more obsessive followers (like me) who are eager to upgrade as soon as it’s judged safe. Thanks!

“That’s because the simple way to pause updates is to click the Pause update for 7 days button under Windows Update. That button always works in seven-day increments and is controlled by the Registry key above or by Windows’ default of 35 days (five weeks). I don’t like this method . . .”

Why not? I’ve used this method forever, all five click for five weeks with no problems.

    • Assuming there’s not too many outsiders passing through, the people of the Stanley municipality might survive the autumn and winter due to their overall isolation. On the other hand, if their kids come home for Christmas from studying or working in the big cities, things could change drastically for the worse. Otherwise, self-isolation and a limited social circle seem to be the norm for this farming area, with possibly brief chats over coffee on shopping trips to town, which may be keeping infection rates down locally.

While misinformation is mentioned, fear of covid seems played down or minimal, and the main reason suggested for hesitancy is historical religious resistance to government decrees spilling over to rejection of government advice, no doubt applied to both provincial and national governments.

I’m sorry our two admitted vaccine skeptics have found reasons not to outline their rationales for choosing not to get vaccinated. While I’m pretty sure most of their reasons can be countered by statistics (e.g., rate of blood clot deaths per millions vs covid-related deaths per thousands of even healthy individuals), proof of misinformation based on studies proven faulty or incomplete, science in general, or appeals for the greater good of their immediate family, friends, social circles, and society, they will most likely find ways to deflect or avoid changing their minds.

It’s good to know that my fellow European at least recognizes that covid exists and is getting tested regularly (I hope he reports back at some point), but like others I am really curious about the “host of reasons” he mentioned. Not necessarily to argue him away from his chosen stance and course of action, but just to learn more specifically why he’s chosen it.

I’ll do my best to adopt an “Oh, OK then, it’s your choice” response rather that suggesting the skeptics are cutting off their own noses to spite their faces specifically if they are resisting the advice of governments and health officials merely for the sake of resisting.
