    • Thank you, I’ll give it a try.

I don’t want to contradict you bbearen, but it is a problem for us. It’s true, if I can remember to always remember to deselect ‘Printers’ when I RDP, it won’t be a problem. I understand what you suggested, but it causes a real problem with Microsoft Access. We use Microsoft Access for our database, and unless you go in to each report and manually set a printer to be used all the time, Access goes with the default printer. When a report is set to print on a Letter sized piece of paper and suddenly you are trying to print to a label, it causes problems.

I have yet to see any benefit in this new option MS placed in W10.

I have not sent a report to MS. Windows apparently does not allow you to change a port name once you have your printer set up.

I’m experimenting with that, JoeP517. Thank you for that suggestion. So far that seems to have made a difference. For anyone reading this, I understood that when you remote in to another computer, if you do not need the printers, before making the connection, go to Remote Desktop Connections –>Local Resources and clear the check box by Printers.

I spoke too soon. The previous option, allowed me to ‘Preview’ the report the way it was supposed to look, but when I would print, it still would print with the other printer margins and I could find nothing to change that. I finally had to make a whole new report, now it works correctly.

OK, here’s an update. After doing some more “Google’s my friend” research, I changed the driver to the printer and it works fine. It makes absolutely no sense to me why only 1 report was causing this issue. For now the issue is fixed!

Interesting. After reading your post, I tried that also and it works. We have finally decided to let MessagePal go by the wayside. It was a wonderful intra-office communications app. We have decided to use Telegram.

    • I’m sorry to say, that didn’t do it for me. Interestingly, on the latest Insider version, MessagePal works, but I have to wait 2-3 minutes after startup before it works. If I try to open it on startup I get the message about the debugger.

Another observation: My test PC recently installed the Windows Insider Preview version 10457. MessagePal now works on that machine, after enabling UDP port 8473 found in these instructions Firewall changes. I am suspicious that Microsoft has a system debugger running in their Threshold 1 release to report bugs back to their development team and that debugger is what MessagePal doesn’t like. I’m not knowledgeable enough to figure out what that would be, but that’s what it looks like to me.

    • in reply to: How to clean-install a Windows 10 upgrade #1529585

Just an observation, after I upgraded my Windows 7 Pro computer to Windows 10 Pro, I did a clean install and there is a noticeable difference in how well it runs. True, I had to re-install all my programs, but I’ve been happy.

One other observation, when you get to the point in the installation where it asks if you own the PC or the company does, I could only get it to keep going if I selected that the company does. It gives you dire warnings about how hard it is to change it later, but I had no problems in setting my PC up as just a local user.

The plot thickens……I just upgraded my Dell Precision T1700 to Windows 10 Pro and it works on mine, but not the Optiplex computers. We had decided we were going to abandon MessagePal and go with Lan Messenger http://lanmsngr.sourceforge.net/ as it does work on Windows 10. We had it installed on a mix of Windows 7 and Windows 10 with no problems.

Out of curiosity, I’m going to run the program from http://www.tweaking.com on one of the other Windows 10 machines (Optiplex) and see if that fixes anything. I had to run that before I could upgrade my Precision machine.

lumpy95, I’ve kind of wondered about that myself, but we really like it as an intra-office ‘secure’ way of instant messaging. It only stays on the LAN.

JoeP517, below is what it shows. I did a little digging and did find some references to ntdll.dll but haven’t figured out completely what it was referencing it for.

I sent them a second message with no reply and can’t find a phone number on their website. Is there a way to see what files or .dll’s are being used by a program? I am using https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx but I guess I don’t know how to use it. All I can see is the MessagePale.exe file.

    • I just sent them a message.
