AskWoody LoungerSo far, I’ve tracked the issue to one of the following packages.
accountsservice alsa-ucm-conf apparmor apport apt apt-utils base-files bash bcache-tools bind9-dnsutils bind9-host bind9-libs bolt bsdutils busybox-initramfs busybox-static ca-certificates command-not-found cryptsetup cryptsetup-bin cryptsetup-initramfs cryptsetup-run curl dbus dbus-user-session distro-info-data fdisk finalrd fwupd fwupd-signed gcc-10-base gir1.2-glib-2.0 gir1.2-packagekitglib-1.0 glib-networking glib-networking-common glib-networking-services grub-common grub-efi-amd64 grub-efi-amd64-bin grub-efi-amd64-signed grub2-common initramfs-tools initramfs-tools-bin initramfs-tools-core intel-microcode krb5-locales landscape-common language-selector-common less libaccountsservice0 libapparmor1 libapt-pkg6.0 libasound2 libasound2-data libblkid1 libbrotli1 libc-bin libc6 libcryptsetup12 libcurl3-gnutls libcurl4 libdbus-1-3 libdns-export1109 libdrm-common libdrm2 libefiboot1 libefivar1 libfdisk1 libfreetype6 libfwupd2 libfwupdplugin1 libgcc-s1 libgirepository-1.0-1 libglib2.0-0 libglib2.0-bin libglib2.0-data libgnutls30 libgssapi-krb5-2 libisc-export1105 libjson-c4 libk5crypto3 libkrb5-3 libkrb5support0 libldap-2.4-2 libldap-common liblzma5 libmaxminddb0 libmount1 libnetplan0 libnss-systemd libp11-kit0 libpackagekit-glib2-18 libpam-modules libpam-modules-bin libpam-runtime libpam-systemd libpam0g libparted2 libperl5.30 libplymouth5 libproxy1v5
Although the error is different, it seems that one of these changes the way the netplan scripts work or something they use.

AskWoody LoungerThat is not how a NVME is normally mounted. It shouldn’t be overhanging the system board like that. It appears that it was a afterthought when the board was designed. I personally wouldn’t trust / use a NVME mounted that way.

AskWoody LoungerWhats the bets Adobe will release a new version of Flash at some point in Q1 2021 due to a major security hole (remember Microsoft have also released updates for EOL products)

Thanks!
Not with SendGrid’s API, but I have done some work with Tumblr and Twitter’s APIs within POSH scripts.
Attached is rough bit of code that might work from within a POSH script

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 13, 2020 at 3:49 pm in reply to: February Win10 1903 and 1909 cumulative update, KB 4532693, causing desktops to disappear #2140237In my years (20+) of doing IT support on Windows, I have seen this issue countless times. And each time it was caused by one of two things. The first reason is the user profile service had a “moment” at logon and couldn’t access the correct profile. With a hard reset (power off / power on) the issue cleared. The second reason is no free space on the the system volume. This prevents the logon process to create the temporary files it needs to load the profile correctly and thus it shows a temp profile instead.

AskWoody LoungerFar as I know, I don’t think the original notification in 2017 was discussed.
I only found 1 post that referred to KB4012494
https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/patch-tuesday-patches-are-up/#post-107604
IMO, its part of Microsoft’s plan to get rid of VBScript completely from Windows as I think they see it as a obsolete script language. They want you to use POSH. Also I suspect its linked to Edge changing to Chromium.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 4, 2018 at 7:11 am in reply to: On beyond Win10 version 1703 – Is 1803 ready yet? Really? #229860I was on 1703 and took the leap to 1803.
I did my secondary pc first (Intel i5 4440, Gigabyte H97N-WIFI) and run through all the tasks I do on it. after 2 weeks I found two issues.
- VLC lossing the audio settings. Once I reset them, VLC worked with no further issues.
- Configuration of 1 of my backup scheduled tasks was corrupted. For that I had to re-create it.
When I upgraded my main pc (Ryzen 1700, ASRock AB350M Pro4), I had a few issues. These were: –
- VLC lossing the audio settings. Once I reset them, VLC worked with no further issues
- 1 Hyper-VM lossing vDisk config. Once config reset, VM worked with no issues.
- 1 application lost its HKCR entries. Once recreated, application worked correctly
- WinRM host settings were lost and I had to reconfig it.
I did the upgrade 90 days ago and no further issues have been encountered.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 5, 2018 at 3:42 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 4: Get patches, but don’t touch the Meltdown/Spectre trash heap #215365It would be nice if we could tie Windows updates to the MS-Defcon level. Whenever it goes to 3, 4, or 5, backups would kick off; and they would be blocked for 1 and 2. Oh well, I can dream…
mmm, thats a idea…..

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 5, 2018 at 3:37 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 4: Get patches, but don’t touch the Meltdown/Spectre trash heap #215363On both of my Win10 1703 pc’s (AMD Ryzen 1700 on ASRock AD350M & i5 4440 on Gigabyte H97N-WIFI) I’m not being offered the 2018-08 updates.
However, on my Win8.1 Pro Hyper-V VM (host is Win10 1703) the 2018-08 updates have been installed with no issues (so far).
