ASKWOODY ALERT!

ALERT

It’s time to get Windows Update locked down

Woody Leonhard

By Woody Leonhard

We expect to have better patch-blocking software available in the next six weeks or so, but for now the onus is on you to turn off Windows Automatic Update.

If you want to let Microsoft push updates onto your Windows machine tomorrow, by all means don’t touch a thing — and let us know on AskWoody.com if you get clobbered.

But for most people, the most prudent approach is to simply block updating until we’ve had a chance to see if the patches create more havoc than they’re worth.

Step-by-step details in Computerworld. Discussion and commiseration on the AskWoody Lounge.
