There are a few problems with theunwanted! Preview patches, but by and large now’s a good time to get the July Windows and Office patches installed.

Although Microsoft is getting better at keeping “normal” computer users from installing the optional, non-security, C/D Week preview patches, there continue to be some confounding interactions.

August’s Patch Tuesday is next week (8/11), so you should take a few moments this week to make sure July’s updates are installed — before the next bunch appears. Those of you who have paused updating may get unwanted .NET Frameworks preview patches. But that’s the way this game is played — and how we get played.
