MS-DEFCON 2: Make sure automatic updating is paused

Woody Leonhard

By Woody Leonhard

If you’re using Windows 7, you might still receive OS updates.

And if you purchased one or more Extended Security Updates (ESU) keys, you almost certainly will. Best to turn automatic updating off until we know what’s happening.

It’s even more important to select “Pause updates … ” in Windows 10 — the “optional” February preview patches we saw for Versions 1903 and 1909 caused all sorts of headaches. We’ll want to make sure none of those issues make it through to the final Patch Tuesday fixes due out today.

Check that your PC is protected — and wait for unpaid beta testers to tell us what went wrong with the latest updates.
