August Windows and Office updates land tomorrow. Take a few minutes right now to ensured they’re deferred for at least a couple of weeks.

Every month, we see new bugs crop up in Microsoft’s regular patches. And every month, unsuspecting Windows users get zapped. The number and the impact of problematic updates varies from batch to batch; you just never know what what’ll pop up — until someone’s system reacts badly, and we hear about it in one of the forums. It’s almost always safe to hold back — a patch that legitimately needs to be installed immediately is exceedingly rare.

So sit back and wait. Let’s see what problems crop up.
