  • April 2021 Office non-Security Updates are now available

Posted on April 6th, 2021 at 13:18 Comment on the AskWoody Lounge

The April 2021 Office non-Security updates have been released Tuesday, April 6, 2021. They are not included in the DEFCON-3 approval for the March 2021 patches. Unless you have a specific need to install them, you should wait until Susan Bradley (Patch Lady) approves them and any problems have been reported.

Remember, Susan’s patching sequence and recommendations are based on a business environment that has IT support and may have time constraints on the updating process. Consumer patching should be more cautious due to limited technical and mechanical resources. The latter is the reason for the AskWoody DEFCON system.

    PATCH WATCH

    By Susan Bradley

Well … we thought we’d seen the last of Office 2010.

Last month (November), I was surprised to see updates for the then newly obsolete suite. (It reached its official end of support this past October 13.) But here we are again: Microsoft has released another round of updates for Version 2010.

Years ago, Office 2007 received a similar reprieve of additional updates for several months after its end of life. So we might see additional updates for Version 2010 in coming months.

  • A compatibility problem between Office 2010 and the Win10 version 2004 update?

Posted on October 20th, 2020 at 18:47 Comment on the AskWoody Lounge

Just got this report from BM:

Just thought I would let you know that the 2004 update was a complete mess for me. It was pushed, I didn’t choose it. I run a Legion Y920-17IKB laptop with a licensed version of office 2010 (because I prefer it to 365). The update completely removed every office file I have created since October 2019. No files were saved in the update restore folder and restoring back to the previous version of windows didn’t recover the files. It also changed all the recents in those applications to files that were again, back from 2019.
This is by far the worst update experience I’ve had, sharing it with you incase you can use it as a cautionary tale for your readers. Microsoft advice is to always back-up to the cloud. God I hate their updates so much! Just when you thought 2020 had thrown all it could at you…
    Anybody else seeing that?
