• Should I upgrade my Win7 machine to IE 11?

Just got a good question from reader AR:

Season’s Greetings to You & Yours!
I presently have IE9 installed on my Windows7 Home Premium desktop PC.
I read in your column that support for IE will end on Jan 12 2016, with a few exceptions.
Win7 is not one of the exceptions.
I haven’t used IE in several years; I use Firefox and/or Chrome.
Being as how “IE is part of Windows OS”, can I safely remove IE from my OS?
Is it as simple as using the “add/remove program” function?
Not that simple. I recommend that you upgrade to IE11, but wait a week or two. I’m looking into some oddities.
Of course, once you’ve upgraded, there’s absolutely no reason to actually USE it. Heavens, no.
