AskWoody LoungerApril 4, 2017 at 7:05 pm #106576Going to be hard to somehow morph Windows App store into something worthy of desktop, laptop and hybrid users only. Maybe roll everything Microsoft into one store and hope that developers stay interested in Apps. But I do not see Windows mobile ever having a resurgence given that Android runs on almost every other smartphone that isn’t a iPhone. Really not something given Microsoft’s track record is possible.

AskWoody LoungerApril 4, 2017 at 7:24 pm #106578It is hard to see how MS could have gotten anywhere on mobile given the stage as which they realized they lost it and bought Nokia out of desperation.
The problem is that without Windows mobile the Whole Windows platform is at risk. They can’t compete with Apple and Google on multiple devices and this is where it’s going.
MS selling the S8 is a clear indication of that.
MS is right now on the IBM path. IBM still exists, but it’s just another me too. Days of glory due to monopoly are over. But if you were Nadella and made 14million in one year without much showing for it, would you care? Ask Marissa Mayer.
Which is a real shame because IMO WinMobile is much superior to both Android and iOS, it’s MS as a company that is a failure.

Win 10 Mobile is a decent OS except for its ugly and non-instinctive Metro Tiles UI, as opposed to Android’s and iOS’s very common icons/widgets.
Maybe, MS were over-innovative and had blinders on.In 2007, Google offered their free Android Mobile OS to consumers in return for being allowed ads, data and app sales revenue. When MS came out with their first Windows 7 Phone OS in 2010, they had to also offer it for free to consumers.
In such open and equal competition, eventually MS could not compete against Google, similarly for browsers, Search, emails, Maps, etc. Maybe, consumers had also rejected MS’s Windows Phone OS bc of their arrogance in the desktop OS market.IOW, MS could only survive in a market-monopoly, eg Win 8/8.1/10 with Metro Tiles could survive mainly because there was no equal competitor, ie a well-supported and well-developed desktop OS that had to be licensed for some US$ or offered for free to consumers in return for being allowed ad, data and app/software sales revenue.
Will Win 10 end up like Win 10 Mobile ?
