The camera on our Lenovo Laptop stopped working. After various other tries, I fixed the problem by rolling back the camera driver. My question is, will this get rolled forward again every time MS sends Win 10 updates? If so is there any way of making the driver version that works, sticky?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody MVPJuly 1, 2020 at 12:40 pm #2276940W10 should not try to reinstall that failed driver if you rolled back.
If you have W10 Pro, you could try the GP settings to prevent driver updates. I’m not sure exactly what the terminology is in W10 GP (don’t use W10) but, I know it’s there somewhere. If you have W10 Home, it may require a third party utility to prevent driver updates if updates persist in replacing that specific driver.

AskWoody PlusJuly 1, 2020 at 2:15 pm #2276976I hope Microfix is correct!. Thanks all for the replies. I do not use Vantage and I do have the update settings set via gpedit holding off general updates. However I may need the specific
Camera driver held static for far longer than I have set the quality and feature updates for (7 days and 180 days.)I suppose I can copy the driver file(s) somewhere and then copy them back if needed.

AskWoody MVPJuly 1, 2020 at 2:29 pm #2276984It’s happened to me whilst testing W10, synaptics touchpad that was kapoot after an update that I let through WUmgr. I then rolled back to the oem driver and the synaptic driver was simply not offered again via WU. I’m sure it was either with 1809 or 1909.
However, that’s not to say it won’t try again as W10 keeps evolving.
(I kept oem drivers in a folder just in case)Windows - commercial by definition and now function...1 user thanked author for this post.
