    And here comes the WindowsBook!

Looks like MS may announce Cloud PC at the Incite conference this week, as reported by Bleepingcomputer and ZDNet. According to Mary Jo Foley on ZDNet:

My sources indicated months ago that Manchester was working on Microsoft’s Azure-powered Cloud PC service, codenamed “Deschutes.” Cloud PC is a virtualized desktop-as-a-service offering that will enable customers to use their own devices as thin clients which can access a remote Windows desktop and use software like Microsoft Office. Microsoft plans to sell Cloud PC as a managed Microsoft 365 experience at a flat per-user price, sources have said. This is an important difference from existing Windows Virtual Desktop (now Azure Virtual Desktop) pricing, which revolves around Azure consumption.

It looks like it may come sporting Win10, but transition to Win11 once the upgrade is released.

    Happy computing on MS Servers!

Cloud solution is definately not PC. P stands for personal. CC would be more appropriate abbreviation. Im wondering, what terminal will you use to connect to the cloud? Cant find that information. I mean there is no need to have your own Windows 10 machine and connect to the CC to emulate another Windows 10 machine. That doesnt make sense to me. Something like Raspberri Pi should be enough.

Yes many a consultant asks “why am I patching a PC to access a PC”?  But it does mean you can use any sort of system that CAN’T run “fill in the blank” to access this.

Susan is spot on here. It sounds like a way to integrate Windows into your Phone or Tablet as a Citrix replacement. For example, a salesperson could have full functionality from his work pc on the road.

I understand, that this could be good thing to have – to be able to access your Cloud Computer from mobile phone or tablet – acess your data mainly, all other things can bo done on the internet.
You will access your data, you can modify your Excel table.. but you are able to do this on your phone already – with all the online accounts and sharing, thats available today. Cant imagine salesman creating VBA macro while on the road.
And why to replace Citrix? This platform is still pretty alive, I have seen very nice online conference about THEIR cloud solution. And they came with this much earlier.
Better would be, if Microsoft would come with some small machine, that is able to connect to the cloud computer and display that on your home TV, for example. So people just need to subscribe and the Micorsoft could lease the terminal.
Virtual Windows 10, 11 or whaterver on the mobile phone will be useless.

Thank you Susan, now I see, that Cloud Computer (CC) could “compute” while my PC at home does something else. I could convert video file for example, while surfing the web on my own PC. Or I can do something, that my PC with GNU/Linux cant 😉
