I was rebuilding a Windows 10 (21H2) machine and came across a software driver for Intel Local Management Service (LMS)  or Intel Management and Security Application Local Management Service.

I’m hoping that you IT folks know something about this.  Do I need it ?

    Thanks,

    Mike

No, you do not need it.  It is for remote PC management.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

No chance that not having the latest driver for the Intel Management and Security Application Local Management might cause problems in the future is MS decides to tighten Windows 10’s default security profile to be closer to Windows 11’s?

From what shows on my machine, that Software component is part and parcel of the Intel Management Engine Interface. IMEI is part of what allows the CPU and accompanying chipset do their jobs, or so I thought.

Bob99.  I was under the impression that the LMS driver and software was mainly for business settings.  Not sure why it would be used for personal, unless it’s for remote support access (Lenovo, Dell..etc. support).  Seems if you don’t manually install it, it’s force fed by Microsoft on some computers with Intel chipsets.

As I said earlier, it is for remote PC management.  Some big enterprise IT department may well use if to ride herd of a few hundred (or thousand) PC’s, but it is absolutely unnecessary for a single PC at home.

and I thought it was spyware/management stuff. I turned off my pre boot network stack and did not (i think) install any mei stuff.
