What are we doing with this one. I didn’t see that it was ok to install and we are in September !

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

ManagerSeptember 8, 2022 at 2:42 pm #2476111When I changed to Defcon 3 that was the indicator that it was “kinda” okay to install the August updates. https://www.askwoody.com/newsletter/ms-defcon-3-issues-with-bootloader-patches/
If you have bitlocker enabled (click on start, search then type in manage bitlocker, see if it’s on) then skip the Secureboot patch. KB5012170
If you do NOT have bitlocker, go ahead and install the cumulative update and the secure boot patch.

I installed CU KB5016616 and the August MSRT on two laptops and came out OK. On one laptop, I had no “Enable audio enhancements” box under the Advanced tab and on the other one, I DID have the box, but I unchecked it. See my post <here >.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 9, 2022 at 5:06 pm #2476645I updated CU KB5016616 on an elderly DELL (Win 10, 21H1, Home X64), everything was fine right after the install and restart; but the next day it took forever to start up. The taskbar items wouldn’t appear, although I could open various apps from the start menu or desktop icons. BUT if I minimized them, they completely disappeared, but they were evidently still running as seen on Task Manager.
I noticed many of those ESENT errors again! I haven’t seen that for a very long time (maybe Nov 2021-ish when many others were reporting the same), but it disappeared after a subsequent update.
Has anyone else noticed that?
Today everything started as per normal.
