I have a spreadsheet that is about 787kb. Not too big. It has several sheets in it. No macros. No links to outside workbooks. I have this on a Dell laptop with Windows 2K. When the laptop is docked in the docking station, connected to the network, the spreadsheet opens like a snap. (spreadsheet is saved on hard drive). But, when the laptop is not docked and I open the spreadsheet, it takes several minutes to open. I don’t know what else to check. It’s like it’s looking for something before it opens. But, what??? What else can I check?

Could it that when the laptop is docked it draws power from AC and when you have it outside the docking station it runs on batteries?
When the laptop is running on batteries the Automatic Power Management software take control and it may slow down the CPU to conserve battery life. Even more it can slow down or even stop the hard drive from spinning and wasting battery “juice”
Try to plug the power supply into the undocked laptop and see if this makes it go faster.
If the above does not improve performance, you may change the settings on your Automatic Power Management software, but that also have a price.
