We plan to create an Intranet database of employees. We have an Access Database, and would like to use FrontPage so the users just use a browser. We are using Office 2000 SR-1, so I’m not sure if we should get FrontPage 2000 or 2002? With all the MS incompatibility problems, we don’t want ot add more.
Thanks for any advice!

AskWoody LoungerMay 22, 2002 at 12:52 pm #589523I’m using 2002 with Office 2000. I like it better. It works fine, I’ve opened them with FP 2000 also, and haven’t had compatibility problems there. In 2002, there’s an option to publish just one page–I think it’s lots harder in 2000 to do that.
However, I think you need some programming in ASP to deal with the database, though I’m not POSITIVE. Are you prepared for that?

AskWoody LoungerMay 22, 2002 at 4:46 pm #589608Thanks for the info, I appreciate hearing from someone using 2002 with Office 2000. I think we’ll go ahead with that version. As to publishing the database, from what I’ve read, if we don’t get too fancy it seems like Access is compatible if we use the ODBC interface. I can get help there if I need it.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer! -

Thanks for the input. We went ahead and bought FP2002 and are now learning to use it. By the way, the “FrontPage 2000 Bible” is an excellent reference, especially in using backend databases. Most references I looked at leave it out or gloss over it. In addition, for our pictures, MS put out an Assistance Center document “Display a Picture Using an Existing Database in FrontPage 2002”. Its a little convoluted, but looks simple enough to do and sounds like just what we need without having to get into programming!
Thanks again for the response!
Gloria
