    Hello,
    On one computer in my office, I had recently copied one of my databases, renamed it, and secured it for distribution to a read-only user. I deleted the copy, and the secured file, etc…however when I open the original copy, I still get the secured Logon form on startup? How can I stop this from showing up?

      Hi,

      Did you try Tools…Startup, and removing it from the startup options, (Display/Forms drop down)?

      If by “Logon form” you mean a form in your database, Nannette probably pointed you in the right direction.
      Otherwise, as long as you are member of a .mdw file with a password on the default Admin user, you’ll be prompted for a username/password. You can create (and become member of) a new .mdw file.

        Hans,

        Your solution was more along the lines I was looking for, is there a way to delete the .mdw file? I dont know where it resides….and I get the Logon even if I try to open a blank database…

          You have to run the Workgroup Administrator program. The default location for the US version of Access 2000 is

          C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice1033WRKGADM.EXE

          You can use this program to
          – See which .mdw file you’re currently a member of.
          – Switch to another existing .mdw.
          – Create a new .mdw, which will be unsecured by default.

          Didn’t think you would bypass that easier solution in your troubleshooting, and know your database is very complex…just took a chance…as sometimes its the easiest things we trip on.

            That worked great, but leads me to another question (just for info)…what is the significance of the 1033 folder? There are folders named 1033 in nearly ever folder under Microsoft Office….

              1033 is the code for US English. Microsoft has a multilingual version of Office (only available to large corporate accounts, not to individual customers) that enable you to switch the language of the Office interface (menus, dialog boxes, help files, …). If you have that, you’ll see such folders for each installed language, for example UK English = 2057, Dutch = 1043 etc.
