:confused:I have checked seven pages of 8.1 Windows lounge, but don’t see anything close. Either it is a simple fix most people can figure out, or it is something unusual.

On the modern Windows screen the live tiles that came with the OS are all there. They are updating and displaying the new content. When I click on them to go to the site they open with a flash to the desktop and are on the taskbar. However, they will not stay open if I click on the task bar icon. They flash up and then shrink back to the task bar. I can close them, but I cannot access them. This started about two months ago and I cannot figure out the problem. Other tiles that I have downloaded on my own work fine!

It seemed to me like an anti-virus/anti-malware program might be blocking them. I uninstalled MBAM PRO and I turned off the anti-virus function in BitDefender. Made no difference.

    Any ideas?

        Hi Bruce,

Thanks for replying. My problem is not with the Windows Store apps, it is with the native apps that come with Windows, like the business, health, foods tiles etc. I have already run the store apps troubleshooter, but it did not help. I have checked some Windows help forums, but they only seem to deal with the store apps.

        Any other ideas?

For a period between “Metro/Modern” and “Universal”, those were referred to as Windows Store Apps.

Interesting bit of history, but my downloaded apps do work fine. While the native apps start fine they get blocked or something so I cannot view them in a window. When I click on the tiles they do open but they bounce over to the task bar on the desktop. I should be able to click on the icon and get the full app window, but something shuts them back down to the task bar almost the instant they open up. They remain on the task bar and can be “opened” unlimited time, but not used. I don’t think it is an issue with the Windows Store Apps in general.

Here’s hoping this makes some sense!

      Hi jwoods,

I ran the reliability report and there they were. Everyday as far back as it goes I was getting a warning for each of these apps about failed update.
I have no idea what to do about that. I assume it was a Windows Update that failed. Any suggestions?

After about 10 hours of MS support and $149 “Assure” plan, it finally was resolved that the Windows Firewall was turned off (as it is with most 3rd party AV/firewall programs installed) and Windows apps will not update with Windows Firewall turned off!! We turned it on and the store updated all the apps and it works fine now. At least I know I have the cleanest OS software in town. An interesting note, despite all the MS troubleshooting apps available, they used a lot of 3rd party apps trying to diagnose my computer!
