AskWoody LoungerFebruary 22, 2017 at 9:33 am #96598USB drive worked. Two USB dongles for wireless keyboard and mouse combos failed to initiate. I think that I missed installing the Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Center completely. The older of the two combos just stopped suddenly after having worked for 6 years. The second is a brand new combo and would not initiate. Any more suggestions? I am not the geek type all though I would like to have their knowledge; too old I am.

GuestFebruary 22, 2017 at 10:09 am #96607Many keyboard and mice require *manufacturer’s* specific software (drivers) to be installed to make the device work (properly?).
Windows does not have *all* drivers available for all such devices.
Did a *drivers* software come with the devices?
Go to the device’s manufacturer’s website–look for downloads of drivers specific to that device.

Chances are, yours are just fine, but I just thought I’d mention it.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 22, 2017 at 5:31 pm #96706I can vouch for the Logitech Mk520 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse combo if you need a replacement. Class compliant Microsoft USB drivers automatically detect and configure the unified USB receiver dongle.
I had a couple of wireless Microsoft keyboard and mice combos that lasted me about 10 years, but finally gave out.
I couldn’t find anything comparable made by Microsoft today, so I made the switch. Happy 🙂

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 24, 2017 at 12:59 pm #97151I thank all for your help and advice in this matter. I found that if I uninstalled everything that had to do with the MS Combo units, I took each item and installed individually; the combo unit would work!!! 1st the mouse, 2nd the keyboard, 3rd the transceiver , then activate and you do not have to restart. I was using usb mouse and keyboard. It is imperative that your unplug them as the activation of the wireless items is taking place. Again I thank all for your indulgence.
