A couple of comments on 1803 which many may already know. 1803 is not yet recommended for use and this version is only for those of us that are gluttons for punishment. 🙂

First thing is I can still activate Windows 10 on a system that came with Windows 7 installed. Use the windows 7 product key sticker on the computer and it should activate.

Second is and has always been the most troubling thing in my opinion ever since Windows 10 came out. That would be the privacy settings. The default settings are wide open and if you leave the settings as is on a new install of windows 10, every key stroke you enter is recorded by microsoft. And things like your camera and microphone are automatically accessible by other programs unless you turn the options off. The first thing I do is turn off most of the privacy settings and especially all the “background apps” setting from running.

What I see with 1803 are additional privacy settings to now allow access to my documents, pictures, videos and……..FILE SYSTEM. Really? I’ll be honest in saying I don’t know the full scope of these privacy settings but I’m not comfortable opening these settings. These options are there because it may have to do with legal issues. As mentioned the OS is wide open by default and if Microsoft didn’t at least give us options to turn them off it could be a huge legal issue. As it stands I would wager the average user has no idea about all these settings and the OS is wide open for whatever Microsoft deems acceptable to monitor.

      why you keep try it?
microsoft won’t ever give to us the windows 10 we want
I personally lost my hope in windows 10
so windows 7 is forever and is all microsoft fault
I’m done to be a guinea pig for microsoft
since they don’t even care to fix windows 10 problems

      Seeker here…

I run a Dell Win 10 home PC with 1803 (obtained via Win Update on April 30th).

All things appeared to be ok until I recently noticed the messages,  “Some Settings are Managed by your Organization” sprinkled among many of the settings. I own the computer. The computer is not part of any organization.

Specifically I see this message in the privacy, location, and feedback settings. I also saw it appear in Windows Update when I installed the updates on Patch Tuesday (May 8th).

I saw one tiny post in a MS forum that stated this is a known bug with 1803. It has grayed out certain features like “location services.” Thus, I no longer see the location icon on my system tray. Windows update appears to work, but I have to manually check it to look for updates.

Google searches reveal reasonable fixes if you are using Win 10 Pro, but if you are on Win 10 home, the only fixes appear to be Registry fixes, and as a non-techie, I would not even go there.

I am just wondering if anyone else is seeing this issue with “Some settings are managed by your organization.” Especially if they are Win 10 home users.

Again, the computer seems functional. I don’t think it is a show-stopper, but I hope the people at MS know about this issue and can provide a fix in a future Windows update?

I have a 2 year old HP Latitude laptop that came with Win 10 Home.

Although it is an i3 with 8GB of RAM and lots of disk space, the laptop has always struggled with Win10 updates and I have used a metered connection to try and control the updates!

Yesterday, I sat down to update from v1709 to v1803. I tried to use the laptop during the updates but it was just too slow.

So, I left it, kept an eye on it and recorded its status every so often. v1803 downloaded and failed to install 3 times and was successful on the fourth. I have a 12-14Mb/s download speed. Overall, Win10 took a shade under 12 hours to complete the update and left me with several thousand errors and warnings (over 24hrs) in Event Viewer. Finally, it told me that v1803 had been installed and offered to turn on Cortana etc (which I declined).

Just as I thought that all was “well”… a warning popped up: the Intel Widi app was not compatible with v1803 and had been disabled. The warning offered me a “Read More” button so I clicked on it… and was presented with a page on the Intel Widi app – in German.

The laptop is set to English and has never left the UK….

Ten minutes after that, EV recorded that the Intel Widi Updater app had stopped because it could not find the resource!

      I struggle with Windows 10…
