1st attempt, using Win10 Update advisor, resulted in PC freezing on what looked like logon screen, but with blank desktop. 2nd attempt, while I was working on a Word document (foolish me!) froze the PC again at 94% and had to do a hard power down to get it back. Below are PC specs. Any ideas? What happens when MS forces an update? Current is 1803, build 17134.619.

I am in no way expert in this topic, but if you are using an app to install the lastest versions, it means that  there may be something off with that application
maybe Event viewer may tell you what is happening.

also can you tell us, why Windows Update isn’t an option to install 1809?

Update to original post: Ran DISM ….. /restorehealth routine and it failed. Found out that the Windows Update service was on manual. Changed back to automatic. Ran DISM ////restorehealth again and it ran successfully. Ran SFC /scannow and some corrupt files were fixed. Disabled 3rd party anti-virus & malware programs. Started 1809 update again via the Win10 Update Assistant and it’s now at 96% and no freezing yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

UPDATE: After a painfully slow process, 1809 finally installed correctly.

Sorry, did that without getting signed in. VPN adapter had to be reinstalled. All else OK so far.

I see, well, for now congratulations on your upgrade, but STAY alert in case something goes wrong I suggest testing all your programs.
