So after MS notices about my 1803 edition coming to end of support I started getting messages in Update about “coming soon to your computer”. So I took a chance and started the process as offered. The update progressed OK for quite a while, albeit slowly as this is an older machine, rebooted and seemed on the way to completion. Now been sitting for hours at 86% completion with no disk activity. Is there a recovery process? I would like to pull a few files and suppose I can use a Live CD to access them.

ManagerJuly 9, 2019 at 8:59 am #1872442Let it sit for 24 hours and see if it will complete.
If it doesn’t after that time, try Crtl-Alt-Del and see if it will do a warm reboot.
Worst case scenario (we hope) is it will revert to the previous version if it doesn’t complete the 1903 install. You DID make a full disk image and a separate backup of your data BEFORE you decided t0 start this upgrade, didn’t you?

AskWoody PlusJuly 10, 2019 at 11:52 am #1873536I have the same issue. I posted getting stuck at 94% without a login so apologies for that anonymous post. Regarding the above, is there any way to download the 1903 update and apply it manually?

GuestJuly 10, 2019 at 12:12 pm #1873535I am having the same issue. I get stuck on 94% of the installation phase. The download is fine. I did make an image copy which I restored and repeated the install and it gets stuck at 94% again . If I do a reboot, windows update says it failed to install I think with no damage, but I did an image restore anyway.
How do I get past this and get a successful install?

AskWoody PlusJuly 10, 2019 at 8:15 pm #1873759I gave up on getting Windows Update to complete successfully. I found the standalone Installer via Windows Update Assistant (Windows10Upgrade9252.exe).
I did an image restore and ran the update assistance. This took nearly 6 hours on my fast machine with 16GB to reach 99% with 4 hours of that from 90-99%.
And there it stuck. It stayed at 99% and never completed . Very frustrating.

Why ?
Has Microsoft pushed 1903 to you or did you run ‘check for update’ ?
To download 1903 ISO try HeiDoc.net

AskWoody PlusJuly 11, 2019 at 2:53 am #1873888Can I use the ISO to do an upgrade to 1903? I do not want to do a reinstall
Yes, you can.
I think that Microsoft’s AI has mistakenly found your hardware/software compatible and pushed 1903. There probably is a ‘stop block’ hardware device in your PC.
Any way, what’s the rush to upgrade to 1903, when in 3 months you’ll get 1903sp1 with 30 months support ?

GuestJuly 11, 2019 at 10:13 am #1874041Thanks Alex. I downloaded the ISO. I restored my image backup,ย ran SFC /Scannow and DISM and both complete with no errors. I turned off Bitdefender and exited every app running. Iย then started Setup from the ISO. And at 79% it gets stuck and did not move all night. So I officially give up getting it installed and will wait as you suggest.
The strange thing is in May I accidentally checked for update and it pushed 1903 which I installed fine. It was early and so I reverted to my image backup. Strange that installed then and fails now.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 16, 2019 at 5:49 am #1952345Home User. Tried updating to 1903. Downloads fine but gets stuck at 60%. Have tried these 4 steps at wintips–
Method 1. Force Windows to Download again the Windows 10 Update v1903.
Method 2. Manually Upgrade Windows 10 to version 1903.
Method 3. FIX Windows corruption errors with DISM & SFC tools.
Method 4. Install Windows 10 v1903 Update with an IN-Place Upgrade.
