Just had this start showing up in my Windows Updates again. Error 666 on install:

However it looks like I’ve already installed it! Along with the 2021-05 patch, so no wonder it’s failing.

Why would this specific one just suddenly start showing up again?

The 2021-04 .Net Core 3.1.14 Update for x64 Client update started showing on one of my PCs. It fails and displays “Download error – 0x80070643”.

This update is not in my update history.

I ran WuReset.bat to reset Windows Update (restart the services and delete the downloads) and this update continues to fail. At this point, I am going to leave it alone and see if MSFT corrects it.

Ah-ha so it’s not just me then. Likely MS ballsing up.

      It’s still there. Annoying. 😐

Why would it be showing when I already have it? And why APRIL’s? Anyone else for the same issue?

Aha! As per this post here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/updates-error-out-with-0x80070643/55fc8a60-de7f-4dab-838d-d512676b6aa3?page=2&rtAction=1623001500976

For me at least, it was down to Visual Studio!

I updated both 2017 and 2019 via the Visual Studio installer, and now the update is no longer showing in Windows Update.

        Thank you for your post.

I had never guessed, that the Visual Studio needed an update, but updating the Visual Studio removed the problem.

As recommended by @BobT, I updated VS 2019 from 16.9.2 to 16.10.0. The 2021-04 .Net Core 3.1.14 Update for x64 Client disappeared from the Windows Update list. A 2021-04 .NET 5.0.5 Update for x64 Client is now the only item in the Windows Update list and it fails with the code 0x80070643.

Hmm .net 5. Have you installed that version already previously?

Check your VS updates for any other versions you have (potentially try uninstalling VS, too?)

I don’t have .net5 showing at all for me in my History or Pending. I wonder if that’s not offered to W7 users.

Thanks a lot! I was having the same issue after installing .NET 5 last night. I spent over an hour trying various fixes like running sfc /scannow, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, restarting Windows Update and other services, and much more.

In the end, installing updates through the Visual Studio updater fixed the issue.

Had this again today, fortunately I found this thread and reminded myself, lol.

      Had 3 .Net 4 & 5 updates show (attached).

Updated Visual Studio and now there’s just this one left: 2021-09 .NET 5.0.10 Update for x64 Client (KB5006192)
As this is Septembers, probably already done it and it’s just another component of Visual Studio or something else that needs updating. It’s annoyingly still giving me error 666. Hmmm…

      Weird isn’t it.
