GuestMay 18, 2021 at 2:43 pm #2365577For me, with a fully updated version of Windows 10 20H2 this was extremely quick to install, around 5 minutes. I understand it largely switches on capabilities previously installed but disabled. I’ve been testing for a couple of hours and no issues whatsoever.

ManagerMay 18, 2021 at 2:54 pm #2365588See #2365579 and #2365600 for my results on a stripped down version of Win10.
The removed tile Apps and ChrEdge that I had removed were not reinstalled. On a quick check, it seems that the settings (that I looked at) have not been changed. Even System protection was not turned off (first time for that, I think).

AskWoody MVPMay 18, 2021 at 3:21 pm #2365601I used the MCT-USB to run the upgrade. It resurrected those pesky “Special” folders and Quick Access, but my .reg files were able to remedy that easily, and my File Explorer is quite tidy once more.
It also changed my system font back to default, and that is going to be a different nut to crack this time around, but I’m in no rush for that. All of my uninstalled apps stayed uninstalled.
I was notified that StartIsBack++ was removed because it is incompatible with this version of Windows, but that was a lie. It was NOT removed, remained installed and perfectly functional.
I’ve run Disk Cleanup to get rid of Windows.old, used the Junk Files Cleaner in Revo Uninstaller, and ran Patch Cleaner.
System nominal.
Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things. We were all once "Average Users". -

AskWoody LoungerMay 19, 2021 at 12:02 am #2365679Bit the bullet and upgraded (because spring’s in the air, and we’ve just come out of yet another lockdown tra la!). The whole thing took less than five minutes. Had to re-log in to Unity after restarting, but that’s usually the case after a feature or other significant update, otherwise no obvious issues

AskWoody LoungerMay 21, 2021 at 6:06 am #2366083Windows Management Instrumentation Command line (WMIC) tool — The WMIC tool is deprecated in Windows 10, version 21H1 and the 21H1 semi-annual channel release of Windows Server. This tool is superseded by Windows PowerShell for WMI. Note: This deprecation only applies to the command-line management tool. WMI itself is not affected.
Does it mean, that we wont be able to run WMI commands from CMD?
Such as wmic bios get serialnumber?

AskWoody LoungerMay 20, 2021 at 6:15 am #2365918Upgraded my 20H2 to 21H1 and, like others have noted, it only took about 5 minutes or so.
Like bbearren I also needed to use some .reg files I’d previously created to remove several unwanted explorer/context menu items that were restored during the upgrade and had one program that Windows indicated it “removed as incompatible” which wasn’t actually removed (it’s still in place and working as expected.)
All my Open-shell settings remained in place but I had to reset Winaero to restore my preferred Windows “look & feel” settings and my O&O ShutUp10 settings had to be updated to disable some telemetry that was reactivated during the upgrade.
My Windows update settings (which were set per instructions provided here on AskWoody) remained as they were.
