Hello, don’t remember seeing this come up in other discussions / forums, though a colleague reported this last week and I’ve seen it yesterday where triggering the 21H2 update results in an immediate reboot (i.e. no normal, all updates installed / please reboot when you’re ready type of message).

My colleague’s report (he a finance guy) that middle of the day a number of his small organization Win10 systems came up with some sort of “you have 60 seconds” and then reboot / finishes the 21H2 installation.  No other issues, just the unexpected reboot and some consternation amongst his staff.

My organization’s setup, have a 90 day Group Policy wait on Feature Updates and knew 21H2 would be coming up on our systems (no WSUS).  As such I’m doing my weekly shutdown of my assigned system, took it off the pause updates, there was 21H2 queued and installing away, thought great, walk away and then when I came back an hour later, my system was rebooted / waiting for the login.  Again no other issues.

Did I miss the Microsoft memo that when 21H2 is ready, we’re going to just assume you can drop everything?

    Let me know and thanks,

Check to see if Settings | Windows Update | Advanced Options | Get me up to date (right pane) is enabled.

Get me up to date is only an option in Windows 11, not 10.

Sorry. On Windows 10 it is in Settings | Windows Update | Advanced Options | Update options | Re-boot as soon as possible.

Depending on the settings you have set on the system/depending if it’s gone past deadlines/depending if it’s installed in the background and is waiting for reboot, it will get to a point when it installs.  This is why I prefer the iso/upgrade now button or scripted install method so that I install it on machines when I say so, not Microsoft.

Hi, my objective with this post is to see if anyone else observed this behaviour.

To Susan’s reply, I can’t speak for my finance colleague’s setup (though it’s an interesting coincidence),  my org’s setup is that Group Policy is setup for the (paraphrasing and going by memory from when I set it up years ago) “Prompt for reboot after install” and this is the first time I can remember that this option has been ignored.

Will await further feedback / observances.

        Thanks,
