Anyone else have this problem? I have been hounding MS on the feedback forum and as you can see, 1792 others upvoted it but they aren’t doing anything about it. A screenshot doesn’t really point out what I mean, you need video but it is pretty well described in the feedback forum like below

https://aka.ms/AAd4q5c is the link to feedback about it. (hope their shortened links is allowed here)

Be aware that I think you need to either have a MS account or an insider account to see that feedback.

Yes, I am not sure how you would have access to the MS feedback forum without it. Here is my initial explanation before I started to get pissy with them.

“the switch between desktops was instant with no fuss, now it removes the taskbar items and search and seems to rebuild it each time while the desktop has to also rebuild. This massively screws up my second screen used for a server monitor. your “recording” of the problem only shows images, not the actual transition it goes through so that doesn’t help demonstrate it at all.”

No, switching desktops on build 22631.3235 is instant and smooth for me with no rebuilding of taskbar whether instigated via task switcher or Win+Ctrl+right.

The KBs/builds mentioned in the feedback hub problem report are more than four months and eight updates old. Which build of Windows 11 version 23H2 are you using now?

      • #2645732

I just installed 23H2 22631.3235 and it still has the same problem so I don’t think you ever noticed the previous switching which was seamless, not this slide over to blank desktop, then icons appear, etc. it is very noticeable on my server monitor since that second screen goes blank and then rainsoft reappears after switch but previously that screen does NOT change at all while switching. off to remove this build again until trying next months since it isn’t fixed.

The build mentioned by myself on the feedback hub is the last build that does NOT have the problem. The version you are on that is working fine is in KB5034848, so I’ll try that one now (I haven’t tried February yet so we’ll see) I am not using 23H2 now sine that was when the problem started up in the first place so I have stayed on 22H2 22621.2428 until a functional update happens. Hope it is this one that you are using.

It’s seamless for me on that build. Wallpaper, icons and taskbar are there instantly when it slides to the other desktop and nothing gets rebuilt later. Could it be a graphics driver issue?

      • #2646053

Uninstalling the update fixes the problem so it is a MS issue.  IF you are even noticing any slide to other desktop, it is broken. That slide causes the second screen to blank and reappear. The version of Windows I am back using still does NOT do any slide whatsoever. So no, it isn’t a GPU driver issue. (no idea why it says i can attach any file any size, these two caused it to not only block the attachments for being too large, but also wordfence pipped in about possible VPN and what not)

I see a slide, but it’s not broken:

New sliding animations will also show when you change your desktops using trackpad gestures, touch gestures, hotkeys and by clicking on the Task View flyout.

If you are still attempting to argue it is fine, you haven’t watched the videos I posted. IF you are happy with it being half ass like that, then this problem doesn’t affect you. But it is clearly a problem that bothers many others. And it doesn’t look like MS is going to ever do anything to fix it.

It’s a feature, not a bug, because users requested that the animation from Windows 10 should return in Windows 11:

Is there a way to bring back the desktop switching animation?

              Desktops slide

If you don’t like it, you can disable animations at Settings, Accessibility, Visual effects, Animation effects:

I saw this last night before bed so I let the update run assuming I would wake up to it broke again not understanding how something so asinine could be a feature (and you would think I would be used to MS after this many years). I am pleasantly surprised that you are 100% correct and your description fixed this issue. I apologize if your previous message was attempting to lead me to the same outcome as I misunderstood what you may have been getting at.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and solving this dilemma. Your gif does somewhat explain why people may want that due to using  different background on each desktop (I was hoping for a different background for different physical display but that is a different thing.) Looks like my “you learn something new everyday” starts early this morning. Thanks again.

I guess I shall see what 2024-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5035853) has to bring. When/if still broken, back to 22H2 22621.2428 .

    • #2652174

This situation is an absolute nightmare and makes my workflow impossible. How do I go back?

      • #2652404

The only thing I have been able to do is continue using version 22H2 22621.2428.

That seems to be the last one that didn’t screw up that nice transition from one virtual desktop to the other. Maybe if we can get more people to complain to MS (I guess the 1821 upvotes and counting in feedback isn’t nearly enough to gain traction) they will do something
