a movable table (excel)

I am tring to make a table which is like a chart in that it can be sized and moved by using the mouse.
is this possible in excel? attached is my table which is basic but not what I am needing

You can use the camera tool to “take a picture” of your table and place it as a movable, resizable object on a sheet.

ahh never knew about that niffty tool,
but it still pastes it as cells and can only be sized by making the cells bigger

when clicking on the object and being able to resize it by draging a corner

Any of the methods described in this thread will allow you to resize the picture by dragging a corner.

Is this what you are looking for?

Highlight all the cells in the table. Hold down the shift key, choose Edit – Copy Picture. Paste the picture (your table) where you want it.

If you use the camera tool, formatting the original source will change the formatting of the picture.

Can I jump in here with an extension to this question – not a hijack (at least I hope not)

I saw an Excel worksheet that had a graph and alongside it there were radio buttons marked Qtr1, Qtr2 etc., When the user clicked on a button, the graph changed to show the data for the selected quarter. This was done without macros and I’ve tried to recreate it with no real success. I’m almost positive it used the camera tool and that the graphs for all 4 quarters existed elsewhere on the sheet.

Hope this makes sense.

Is this what you are after?

It does not require the camera, just formulas set up correctly. The radio buttons tell what to lookup so the chart changes based on the lookup and the calcs.

Thanks for that example. It does the job, but I’m nearly certain that the one I saw earlier used the camera or some sort of picture object that was linked to the radio buttons iykwim.

Joe,
Attached is a workbook with a simple chart controlled by a combo box.
There are no macros. Note that the source range for the chart never changes,
but the data in the source range does.

Here is a way using the camera tool. This has advantages if your charts are not formatted the same or of different types.

The earlier is if you only need 1 chart and you just want to change the data that is charted. I prefer the first method (without the camera) since it eliminates the need to create every chart, you literally only have 1 chart that just plots many different ways. This way forces you to create all the charts and then name the areas behind them.

Seaner, about your query re: formatting the table. A quick and easy way is to go to Format – Auto Format . There are lots of samples there to choose from to jazz up your table at bit.

Even if the Camera tool is not on a toolbar, you can get exactly the same effect by following these steps:

1) Select the range
2) Choose Edit – Copy
3) Press the Shift key and choose Edit – Paste Picture Link (this command is available only when the Shift key is pressed).

The result is a linked picture of the original range. You can move this picture anywhere you like and you can resize it
