AskWoody PlusDecember 30, 2021 at 11:30 am #2409472I’ve a friend, actually a group of friends, who took over a WordPress blog that had been run for years by another friend who passed away nearly a year ago. While he was ill, he made three contributors editors and he prepaid Blue Host for five additional years. So, they’ve been maintaining the blog, posting to it regularly in the same fashion as our friend had. They used a commenting system that didn’t need moderation on each post, Ark Comment Editor, which has been discontinued so they’re looking for a replacement system that does not require every comment to be approved by an administrator as none of them have the time to run it full time as our friend did.So, they need a replacement system, preferably free, that would do what Ark Comment Editor did, they’ve considered several including Disqus, but haven’t found one that is quite what the old one was nor that allows images to be posted – many of the regular readers will include a political cartoon in their comment. They’re doing this both in memorium and for free, their time and attention, so keeping things as automated as possible but not at cost is important – to them and the blog’s readership, like I said it’s been around a couple decades, would hate to see it disappear. Thanks for any insight/ideas. :^) geneViewing 5 reply threadsAuthorReplies-

Other than for those repeatedly posting comments that are personally insulting, or propound seriously depraved views, or are themselves out and out trolls, or are fond of posting Dark Internet URL links, the chances of getting moderated now days seem to depend mainly on the software used here to triage comments. For example, if one submits a comment that has more than five URL links pasted on it (this number is not set in stone), or if one uses words that are quite acceptable even in mixed society, but the decency filter thinks they are filthy, then off to “moderation.” For the most part, the comment is accepted and published after someone has had a look at it, but that can take quite a while. Susan and others here sometimes spend endless hours fiddling with those persnickety filters (I know that for a fact), but there is always something.

Post your comment that got sent to Moderation there, effectively starting your own thread, and call this thread “I am testing in the Testing Forum”, or words to this effect. But just before posting the comment, see if there is anything there that might be even mildly interesting to the hyperactive or hypersensitive (or just “hyper”) “Spiriting Your Innocent Comments Away” robotic filter and delete that part of the text (don’t worry if, as a result, the edited text does not make sense, this is not about making sense). If it still gets sent to moderation, that will bother someone who checks the item and, if passes muster, puts it back in the place you intended for it to be (the Testing Forum). Being bothered, then that same person might explain to you what might be the problem with your comment that gets so richly favored with such a truly special treatment.
A second option is to send a nice note to: CustomerSupport@AskWoody.com (also known as Susan Bradley) explaining your problem there and followed, in the text of the same message, by a copy of the title and text of the latest disappearing comment (make a copy of the comment before you post it, just in case).

AskWoody MVPJanuary 27, 2022 at 1:17 pm #2421610Actually, the rule used to be that if you hadn’t logged in for some time period (six months, I think), your first post after that time required moderation (even for registered users).
so what is it this week? /s
