I’ve just finished a course in Excel, and am looking to start working with it full time. However, I know that Excel is a very powerful program with a huge number of tips & tricks to simplify and make your work more productive, and to teach you all of Excel’s capabilities in the long run. I know there is a lot of info on the web but I prefer a book, or a few books.

I mean here Excel 2010, but 2007 will also suffice.

Anyone here knows and can recommend such a book?

    TIA

You can’t go wrong with O’Reilly Media’s excellent “Excel 2010: The Missing Manual” Available via the following link as a printed book, or an e-book (useful hyperlinks aid navigation through the e-book):

      http://oreilly.com/catalog/0636920001850/

Purchasing the product also provides free access to the “missing CD” which contains shareware and example files referred to in the Manual.

Here is an extract from the web page:

      Description
“Fast-paced and easy to use, this guide shows you how to get the most out of Excel 2010. You’ll learn how to develop a spreadsheet from scratch, create formulas, add data, and analyze and graph data so you can make informed business decisions. With clear jargon-free explanations, step-by-step instructions, tons of illustrations, and lots of undocumented tips and shortcuts, you’ll get hands-on guided tours and explanations of Excel’s new features.

      Full Description

Excel, the world’s most popular spreadsheet program, has the muscle to analyze heaps of data. Beyond basic number-crunching, Excel 2010 has many impressive features that are hard to find, much less master — especially from online help pages. This Missing Manual clearly explains how everything works with a unique and witty style to help you learn quickly.

•Navigate with ease. Master Excel’s tabbed toolbar and its new backstage view
•Perform a variety of calculations. Write formulas for rounding numbers, calculating mortgage payments, and more
•Organize your data. Search, sort, and filter huge amounts of information
•Illustrate trends. Bring your data to life with charts and graphics — including miniature charts called Sparklines
•Examine your data. Summarize information and find hidden patterns with pivot tables and slicers
•Share your spreadsheets. Use the Excel Web App to collaborate with colleagues online
•Rescue lost data. Restore old versions of data and find spreadsheets you forgot to save”

Good luck: You have been provided with quite a selection to choose from in the foregoing posts!!
