Does anyone know the easy route to get the runtime for MS Access 2003 where a user can run a program without having Access installed. I am going round in circles with the MS website. Thanks

The runtime components themselves are included with any installation of Access 2003.
But in order to distribute a runtime solution you need to have a license; this came with the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions, which were a part of Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003. Microsoft doesn’t sell this any more, since they have moved on to later versions of both Visual Studio and Access, so your best bet would be to find someone who is willing to sell their license to you (or perhaps there’s a computer software shop that still has a copy gathering dust on the shelves).

Thanks Hans, trust your well. How good of Microsoft, just leave everyone in a mess. I wonder how the law stands if someone uses the retail version. I will go on ebay and see if anyone has it, this sort of thing really makes one sick. But thanks. Regards

Any reason you can’t use the Access2007 runtime? You can download that from the Microsoft site.

Thanks Mark. Yes I saw the Access 2007 runtime is free. I suppose not charging for it like the previous runtime MS hopes more applications will use 2007. However will it work on a non 2007 machine, and for 2003 databases??? Anybody know? Thanks

It should work on a PC that doesn’t have Office 2007 (that’s the point of a runtime version). Why don’t you download it to a separate PC and see if it works with your database?

I’ve used it a couple of times for clients. Don’t need Office, works with Windows XP, and with 2003 databases. Easy to install.

Many thanks Hans, Mark. Thank goodness theres a way forward, I was near to throwing my pc through the window and taking up drinking. I will give it shot on a non office pc, although feel confident after Marks confirmation. Best regards, thanks again

Back again!! I found a pc not having Access, it has XP on. I installedd 2007 runtime. It works but I get the message “A potential security concern has been identified” before it opens. How do I stop it on an XP machine? Thanks

I know this is an old thread, so I hope I am not violating protocol. However, I did find Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions (English) is available at their BizSpark site.

You have to sign up in order to access the programs.

Just thought I would mention it.
