I have a machine with native Access 97 installed … When I try to install a new application that needs Access 2000, setup installs a runtime version of Access2000 in a different directory, but it can not register MSJRO.DLL and MSADOX.DLL . When I start the runtime Access 2000 application it starts fine, but when it hits the first ADO statement it blows up.

Is there a way around this without uninstalling Access 97?

    Thanks

    Dale

It may not have anything to do with Access 97. What operating system is on the target machine? Windows 2000 and ME install versions of MDAC that may be conflicting with what you’re trying to install in your setup. What version of the ADO libraries are you referencing in your database and what service release of Office 2000 was the database created under?

The target machine is running Window 95

The version of MSADOX.DLL and MSJRO.DLL is 2.50.4403.4

The database was created under Access 2000 SR-1

Does the msado25.tlb library get registered properly? Do they have anything on the machine that might have installed ADO 2.6?

          • #1789196

I don’t find msado25.tlb on either the source nor the target machine…

I have a msado21.tlb and msado20.tlb on the source machine

and msado20.tlb only on the target machine

You need the MSADO object library in the companion version to the other two libraries. If you are using A2k SR-1, you should have ADO 2.5 on your source machine, although 2.1 is the default reference set. But things like connection objects live in the library you don’t seem to have, and msado20 isn’t adequate.

              Thanks for the info …

I have searched the source machine and can not find any file with msado25 … Can I download it? If so how do I apply it?

            • #1789237

You can download the MDAC_TYP.EXE for the version of ADO you need from the Microsoft site. Make sure you get ADO 2.5, though and not 2.6 if you can avoid it. Both have the same file name when installed, but I don’t know who 2.6 behaves with Access 97. Running the MDAC executable installs the updated version of ADO on your machine.

              Charlotte,

I have the 2.6 SP1 MDAC on my PC and Access 97 seems fine

Thanks so much … I downloaded the executable, but before I apply it… The runtime version of A2K I have on the source machine does not (to my knowledge) have the SR-1 applied. Do you know I can check and apply it if not at a SR-1 level? Do you know how I can distribute a runtime version that is consistent with with the ADO2.5 I’m about to apply?

MDAC isn’t part of the Access runtime engine, it contains the dlls for ADO.
