• Access runtime ? (2003)

There’s some talk at the office about creating some forms and such for keeping logs of things that happen on projects. The type of thing that a shared database would probably be apropriate for. I know that there is an option to create “runtime” Access projects that do not require the user to have Access installed, so I went looking for that.

I found that I need the “Access 2003 Developer’s Extensions” which is part of “Visual studio tools for MS Office Systems.” Now it seems that to get that I can either buy an MSDN subscription (which comes in about 5 varieties) , Or Visual Studio .NET (which comes in about 10 flavors!).

Can someone maybe simplify this mess for me? I imagine this would probably be a VBA-Access application, at least for the foreseeable future. No C ro J of any description.

    Thanks for any advice

You can buy the VSTO alone, without buying Visual Studio.Net. Installing VSTO installs the necessary bits for the Access extensions and includes the wizard to create the distribution package. It also installs a Standard Edition of VisualBasic.Net. I have it on my laptop without the rest of Visual Studio.Net.

Could you expand VSTO for me? My brain hurts .

I happen to have a copy of Visual Basic .Net Standard. Any chance it’s included on that release?

VSTO = Visual studio tools (for MS) Office (Systems)

No. Not unless you also have the tools. If you just have a copy of VB.Net standard, then that’s all you have. VSTO is an additional, semi-autonoumous component of Visual Studio.Net, not of VB.Net.
