I followed the instructions to go to https://aka.ms/recoverykey to get the code.  When I log in an orange screen with graphic of  ice cream on a stick melting saying there is a problem and to try again and suggesting to contact microsoft if necessary.  I have used chat sessions to get help and all they tell me is that it is a known issue and they are working on it.  It has been 10+ days without progress.  Has anyone else had this issue?  I know I can reinstall Windows and all apps and files but my last backup was two weeks prior to this  issue and I’d hate to lose the newest files.  Any suggestions?

Can you sign in at https://account.microsoft.com?

Windows automatically uploads the recovery key to the first MS account you sign onto. Hopefully this is your standard MS account and you can login to it to find the recovery key.

I found the solution to this problem.  A free account for One Drive was active on this computer but was full.  Apparently that caused a “lock-out” of the Windows account and made retrieving the code impossible.  I downloaded half the files from One Drive and sure enough the next day I could retrieve the necessary BitLocker code.
