somehow i deleted the entire bookmark/favorites file in Chrome. Is there some way to restore the folder? I found a article on how to geek about renaming the bookmark.bak file but it did not seem to work. Just about everything that i do was in that favorites file and to recreate would take forever.

Unless there is another way it seems ether file history or a month old back up are my only choices. Really could use some help here.

Are your bookmarks included in a system backup?

Good question I use AOMEI and i was hoping it would also restore chrome back the date on the backup. the problem is the back up is a month old.

Any ideas on the system restore? i have a restore point from yesterday.

I doubt a system restore would help you, but it should be reasonably easy to use Aomei to explore the backup, and extract the copy of the bookmarks?

Browse the backup for C:\Users\(yourusername)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks

Well as a workaround and not a very good one i did import my bookmarks into the new edge when i installed it last January. I copied those back into chrome. At least it gave to somewhat of a baseline to work with.

It sure seems like Google would have made it easier to undo something like this for idiots like me who instead of deleting one bookmark delete the whole folder.

If the file is in your backup you can select it, close Chrome and restore the file.

It is really easy. Log into your Google, Gmail… account and if you set sync in Chrome all bookmarks… will reload.

This assumes that you had logged into Chrome and synced the bookmarks in the first place.
