So, what’s the deal with this new “account login” request and yellow exclamation-point icons for Windows Update and “Rewards” (whatever that is) which has begun appearing on the settings page of my Win10Hx64 1909 machines in the past several days?
After I’ve logged in following the POST/boot phase, upon pulling up the settings page my account name is now displayed (sans any avatar) in the upper-left corner and tagged as a “local account” with “sign in” link. In the upper-right part, there is now a “Windows Update” label below a ‘refresh’ icon with the yellow exclamation point and “attention needed”, and to its right this new “Rewards” label (and some sort of trophy icon) with “sign in” below it.
I suspect this is Microsoft’s attempt to extract some sort of additional “sync” leverage through linking a Microsoft account with the OS, something in which I have no interest. I do have a MS account used for Skype and some other functions, but generally otherwise do not use it and it’s not associated with my primary e-mail address.
If I click on any of the settings this array disappears and each of the functions are fully available and perform as normal. How do I eliminate this from automatically attempting to solicit (or goad) me into whatever MS is trying to do?
