Add record to query (2000)

Hi I just started using Access so I don’t know it at all. I have 2 tables 1 called Cows and other called Transactions. I made a query from the 2 tables. My problem is the query will not allow me to add records, what am I doing wrong? I looked at the Northwind database and the query Category sales for 1997 will not allow you to add to it. Do I need to change a setting?

Can you tell us about the structure of the tables, and the composition of the query.
When you try to add a record in the query, is the record supposed to go into cows, transactions or both?

I changed my primary key to the cow ID instead of a auto number and every thing works great.
