• Addin Field Results? (2002 XP 2003 2000)

Does anyone know how to set the .result property of a field with type wdFieldAddin, or any other means of having visible text associated with an ADDIN field?

I know that it’s possible: the products EndNote and Reference Manager from Thomson manage it (they ‘hide’ database search information in the .code property while showing an endnote-like cross reference, and a bibliography field at the end of the document that updates with the queried records from an external database).

Information on newsgroups hints that it’s possible to do this by faking the field type as something else first, then changing the .code to use the ADDIN type, but I have not been able to reproduce this behavior.

    Thanks,
    Joel

The ADDIN field has a Data property that can only be set and retrieved in VBA. It is not displayed in the field itself, even if field codes are visible. See Using Addin Fields.

I should have posted that link. Been there, done that.
What I want is for the ADDIN field to have visible text too.

Reference Manager and Endnote http://www.endnote.com[/url%5D both from Thomson, both manage to have visible text as well as storing data in the ADDIN field. There aren’t any nested fields.

There must be a way to reproduce the same effect.

I have neither. Could you post a dummy document with an ADDIN field that displays text?
