Hi I’m posting this question for a client using:
OS is NT, FP98, Excel 97, IE 5.5.
He is trying to copy an Excel chart into a Front Page page. The method he is using is to copy and paste from Excel into FP. In FP explorer all the links look right, when previewed in the browser, all looks right …. but after moving the page to the live web …. 2 of the Charts work just fine but the 3rd appears as a broken jpeg link. Any ideas how to correct? Or share proper procedures? I have limited experience with FP98 but am expert in other MS Office products. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Are you still looking regarding this one? If so, just a thought – I’ve noticed FrontPage doesn’t always name links correctly; sometimes, for no apparent reason, FrontPage will insert an absolute link (which won’t work on a live site) instead of a relative one (which will), resulting in a broken link. Since you say the faulty one shows as a ‘broken jpg link’ I am assuming the XL chart is being pasted as an image, and that being so, I suggest you check the image properties on the third one and see where the link is looking.

If the address says something like, eg. ‘c:my documentsmy websxl chartschart3.jpg’ (I might have the slashes facing the wrong way!), it’s an absolute address and, since there won’t be a ‘c:/…’ etc on the server, it won’t work (there is on your machine, so it does when you look at it in preview). If, on the other hand, it is along the lines of, eg. ‘xl chartschart3.jpg’ or ‘..xl chartschart3.jpg’ it is relative, and since it’s just looking for the file (in these examples) in a sub directory of the current one (first eg) or in a directory one up from the current one (second eg) it will find it.

Sorry if this is confusing dizzy , but hope it helps when you decipher it! smile
