Adding commands to right mouse click (Office 2003)

Hi,

I need this about every three years and by that time I’ve either forgotten or the new version of Word is slightly different. Sorry.

How do I add a command to the right click mouse menu? I need to put in a macro (already written).

Replies

Right click the toolbars and activate the customize dialog.
In the toolbars list check the shortcut menus (This activates the toolbar containing the shortcut menus)
Click on the commands tab in the customize dialog
Go to the macro’s category
Drag the macro into the shortcut menu category you want.

That I all recall. What I cannot find is which menu is for the right mouse click since one cannot drag to the mouse menu with the mouse. That’s a self-destruct. A few versions ago there used to be “text” menu for the mouse but that’s no longer there.

I’m not to sure if I understand you correctly, but follow the previous instructions to activate the shortcut menu.
Get to the commands tab and collect your macro.
Drag it to the text category on the shortcut menu, and nudge to bottom of the menu to scroll it down.
You will find a text menu, in which you can drop your macro.

(This menu is the one that will activate when you right click on text in a document)

Rudi, I really appreciate your patience here… and everything you’ve told me is correct the way I remember it. There’s just no text menu. There’s an AutoText, but that’s something else. My Office 2003 is in German so I thought that might be the culprit, but I just called an English 2003 user and he doesn’t have that either.

Let me recap… View, Toolbars, Customize, then the Commands tab, I go to macros, click on the macro I want and then where do I find a Text menu?

Patience is nooo problem.

Choose view, toolbars, customize.
Choose toolbars tab, and check the shortcut menu check box.
This will activate the shortcut menu toolbar.
From the commands tab in the customize dialog, go to macros and drag your macro to the shortcut menu toolbar and add it into the text menu there.

PS, it is the same in word 2000, word 2002, and word 2003

I am not able to get this to work.

If I click on one of these then I get a whole list of items, each of which has its own sub-menu.
