Fellow Linux users- anyone know how to add emojis?ย  Nothing has turned up in a search here and nothing that actually works from an online search.

Cut and paste from here perhaps

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

I did find that site, noticed that it specifically mentions Linux, but was unable to get a context menu (copy, cut, paste, etc) via my usual method, a right-click.ย  No guidance there for us Slowpokes.

Did you see the text at the bottom of the page?

Just highlite the emoji you want and you should get acopy option on right click

Okay, mystery solved.ย  Long ago I went to the “select (object) with single click” option, as I did back in the Win7 Stone Age.ย  But this site still wants a double click.ย  Thanks!

For the basic ones, just type ’em out, like back in old days…

      For a smiley face?
      colon,dash,rightparenthesis
      ๐Ÿ™‚

      For a sad face?
      colon,dash,leftparenthesis
      ๐Ÿ™

      For a wink?
      semicolon,dash,rightparenthesis
      ๐Ÿ˜‰

      For a big grin?
      colon,dash,capitalD
      ๐Ÿ˜€

You get the idea. Hope this helps.

Also, as I was reminded recently that not everything that seems obvious to me is necessarily obvious to everyone else, please note:

when I wrote “colon, dash, capitalD” that means to type just three characters…
        first a colon ( : ) followed immediately by a dash ( – ) and then a capital D ( D )

Assume you already understood my meaning, but perhaps better to be more explicit. Hope this helps.

Yes- I know how to do that, and they appear exactly as typed.ย  I’m looking for the actual icons that also appear in your first post- are you on Linux?

Yes – my above posts were made on LMDE box, using Firefox browser.

Prior to reading about your difficulties, though, I’d always just figured that the emoji icon generation (i.e., emoji text replacement) wasn’t tied to the box or OS I was using, but was the result of server processing (in other words, how the site itself handles certain common text strings; another example would be replacing three consecutive periods with an elipsis character, as was done in both of my earlier posts).

Hmmmm. The only thing that occurs to me that I didn’t specifically mention earlier is this: I always select/use the “Text” tab, located above the message input box, before/when typing and posting. Other than that, I’m stumped.

I’ll try that- the default is Visual and I’ve never selected “Text.”
